Tanglin Black Powder Gin
Black Powder, Tanglin's Navy Strength Gin, is a punchy 58% ABV, with an amazingly smooth palette for sipping. Based on Tanglin's Orchid Gin, it's tinkered by bruising half the Junipers and an addition of whole fresh lemons for a well-rounded gin with a bright citrus note.
Nose: Gentle citrus nose followed by a herbal and spice note
Palate: Smooth and creamy, held over the tongue an earthy herbal flavour appears with a slight sweetness
Finish: Long and herbal with a slight peppery, warm finish that lingers
Similar to Orchid Gin, but with a surprisingly extra smoothness, try it neat, hold it in the mouth and allow the taste buds to open, warming the liquid before swallowing, the Gin has no rough edges and is creamy smooth.
Centuries ago, an Alchemist from China was searching for the Elixir of Life, ironically he created gunpowder instead. When Europeans first heard about magical fireworks and exploding weapons, they voyaged and ventured to find it. Navy-strength gin arose from similar expeditions as vessels were required to have a certain amount of gin on board. In order to test gin quality, a mixture of gin and gun powder was used to check against unscrupulous employers. If it burned clear—this was a sign that it was 57% ABV and above.
We tinkered with our Orchid Gin's original recipe to create our internationally acclaimed Black Powder by bruising half the junipers and adding whole fresh lemons to create a well-rounded gin with bright citrus notes. Made for the brave.
